Report: Russia can make public transport free ‘35 with car payments

MOSCOW, Sep 11 (PRIME) -- The Russian Transport Ministry does not rule out introduction of free public transport in cities by 2035 financed by payments of car users, newswire RBC reported Friday, citing a strategy.

"This mechanism envisages payment for travelling on all roads of regional importance from 2025 and payment for all categories of road users by 2035. But there is no clarification in the strategy as to whether travelling by car by all types of roads will be subject to payments," the newswire reported.

The ministry also offered to stimulate the use of non-engine vehicles, such as bicycles in the cities and to develop transport which is not street, such as metro.
